A Drug Delivery System (DDS) is a useful pharmaceutical technology for delivering a drug to a specific target. Medicines utilizing DDS can work more effectively and reduce the risk of side effects. A colon-specific DDS is for delivering a drug to the colon. This can be applied to new medicines for colon diseases or food supplements. Our colon-specific DDS is based on a biodegradable mechanism Chitosan which is a different concept than a time-release DDS.
Aicello Chemical Company Ltd. (Aichi, Japan), has developed Aicello Chitosan hard capsules and a colon-specific DDS using capsules and an enteric coating. In cooperation with Freund Corp. (Tokyo, Japan), Aicello developed Chitosan coating technology for a colon-specific DDS. Our new technology allows for a colon-specific DDS in many forms and sizes.
